Worst Movie Sequels

Character from Scary Movie 3

Last year I did a blog post highlighting some of the best movie sequels ever made and today I felt the need to highlight some of the worst sequels. It's not easy making a follow up to a good movie but sometimes these writers and directors make no effort whatsover. It's pretty obvious it is a cash grab for most and we the audience, are exposed to some terrible content which is supposed to be a sequel. Check out these sequels which were unfortunately followups to decent movies. Many other horrible sequels exist but I just felt these particular ones were very ridiculous.

Son of the Mask (2005)
Sequel to The Mask
This cheap sequel to Jim Carrey's The Mask was downright ridiculous and forced. Nowhere near the crazy humorous nature of the first film.

Basic Instinct 2 (2006)
Sequel to Basic Instinct
I quite loved Basic Instinct and this was such an embarrassing follow-up. Cliched, boring and poorly written, Sharon Stone should have just said no.

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen (2009)
Sequel to Transformers
Transformers is nowhere near a perfect film but it was more enjoyable than this piece of crap I wasted my time watching. The sight of Shia LaBeouf bickering to himself still gives me nightmares.

Men in Black II (2002)
Sequel to Men in Black
Men in Black was already a silly and enjoyable movie. But the director of this movie decided he wanted to take the silliness to another level -- oh and threw in some horrible acting too.

The Hangover Part II (2011)
Sequel to The Hangover
This sequel pretty much followed in the same footsteps as the original film and they completely forgot the humor which made the first Hangover enjoyable for most people.

Pirates of the Caribbean: At Worlds End (2007)
Sequel to Pirates of The Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest
This was the sequel of a good sequel and a very lackluster one at that. This conclusion to the Pirates of the Caribbean trilogy (before On Stranger Tides was released) was just not convincing.

Grease 2 (1982)
Sequel to Grease
This was the perfect way to ruin a musical classic. This was truly an unnecessary sequel and the songs just didn't cut it, unlike its predecessor.

Deuce Bigalow: European Gigolo (2005)
Sequel to Deuce Bigalow: Male Gigolo
I thought the first movie was funny but they just had to go ahead and make a sequel trying to top it. Sadly enough it didnt work and wasn't remotely funny.

Caddyshack II (1988)
Sequel to Caddyshack
Not even Chevy Chase's presence could have saved this unfunny trainwreck of a sequel.

Dumb and Dumberer: When Harry Met Lloyd (2003)
Sequel to Dumb and Dumber
The only thing I applaud in this film was how they were able to have these two young leads resemble Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels from the first movie. Otherwise, this was a joke of a movie. Horrible script.

Batman and Robin (1997)
Sequel to Batman Forever
Batman Forever wasn't that great of a movie but this sequel completely buried the Batman franchise in the 90s. Each character and line were incredibly cheesy. Plus the nipples suit? This was the epitome of a joke.

The Two Jakes (1990)
Sequel to Chinatown
Jack Nicholson made his directorial debut with The Two Jakes but unfortunately this sequel to the classic Chinatown just didnt cut it with its uninteresting plot. It doesn't hold up as a sequel, much less a stand alone film.

The Rage: Carrie 2 (1999)
Sequel to Carrie
Carrie didn't die for this. This suffered from a piss poor script and equally lame leads.

The Crow: City of Angels (1996)
Sequel to The Crow
This was everything opposite of the first film. Lazily written, bad acting and lacked the thrills which made the first film a classic.

Speed 2 - Cruise Control (1997)
Sequel to Speed
I was kinda hoping they'd blow up the cruise ship - that's how much I hated this movie. No wonder Keanu Reeves declined to return.

Which other sequels do you think were god awful?
