Synopsis: Years after walking away from her past as a teenage private eye, Veronica Mars gets pulled back to her hometown - just in time for her high school reunion - in order to help her old flame Logan Echolls, who's embroiled in a murder mystery.
I've never seen the famous Veronica Mars tv series so this review is me sharing my thoughts of it as a stand-alone film, and happily it works. The movie stars Kristen Bell as our titular character as she puts her private-eye past behind her and is ready to start a new job at a law firm in New York. However she is drawn back into her hometown Neptune and here we see Veronica Mars evolve into one of those "whodunit" detective thriller that keeps you guessing as it goes along. The movie thankfully opens up with a quick background story of Veronica Mars so as to keep us non-fans updated and it wasted no time in getting into the meat of things.
Kristen Bell does a swell job at being the driving force of this movie. Her character Veronica Mars is a pretty determined and easy going, and Bell does a good job keeping me invested as she unravels the mystery murder case beforehand. Although this movie offered nothing compelling or really new to the genre, it was still able to keep a level of suspense, humor and interesting enough characters to deter boredom. I had no issues with the acting in this film but I thought that maybe they could have gotten a more livelier actor to play Logan Echolls - Jason Dohring seemed a bit bored. All in all, I thought Veronica Mars was a decent detective flick, even as a non-fan of the series.
