Top 25 Movie Songs

MOVIE SONGS

Most, if not, every movie has that one signature song which may play a crucial role in its success. Movie songs creates atmosphere and moods in the film and also adds revenue. Sometimes the songs are even more memorable than the film itself. Please note, movie songs are NOT necessarily the same as the film's background music or score. There are a lot of great movie songs but I've compiled my top 25 favorite and most unforgettable ones. Enjoy.

25

Coolio, 'Gangsta's Paradise' (Dangerous Minds, 1995)

Classic Michelle Pfeiffer film where she played a teacher who was able to get through to some of the most unruly inner city high school kids.  This is the only Coolio song i can remember and i read where the lyrics of this song is actually from a Stevie Wonder song.  Good job in transforming it into a hip hop classic Coolio!

24

Timon and Pumba, 'Hakuna Matata' (The Lion King, 1994)

"It means no worries for the rest of your days, its our problem free....philosophy, hakuna matata". Whether back in the 90s or  even today, this is the MOTTO. An inspiration to most, if not all.

23

Survivor, 'Eye of the Tiger' (Rocky III, 1982)

Rocky, Rocky, Rocky, Rocky! This movie song definitely set the pace and atmosphere for that epic battle between Sylvester Stallone and Mr. T in the 3rd installment of the Rocky series.

22

Ray Parker Jr, 'Ghostbusters' (Ghostbusters, 1984)

''There's something strange in the neighbourhood, who you gonna call? Ghostbusters!!" One of the most catchy lines in film and music history coming from one of the most awesome movies I've watched while growing up.

21

Bryan Adams, (Everything I Do) I Do It for You (Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, 1991)

This unforgettable slow ballad came to prominence after the release of this film. It sounds way better than Kevin Costner's pathetic attempt at an English accent.

20

The Temptations, 'My Girl' (My Girl, 1991)

Classic ballad by The Temptations in the 1960s and furthermore brought to life by the movie "My Girl" in 1991.

19

Julie Andrews, 'Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious' (Mary Poppins, 1964)

Who can forget that epic word? Definitely not me. If you were not exposed to the awesomeness of Mary Poppins while growing up, you, my friend, did not have a childhood.

18

Aerosmith, 'I Dont Wanna Miss A Thing' (Armageddon, 1998)

The 'cosmic' romance between Ben Affleck and Liv Tyler in 'Armageddon' required a love song equally as epic.

17
Kenny Loggins, 'Footloose' - (Footloose, 1984)

Full of energy, foot stomping, feet kicking, this song is the anthem for any oldies party. Song so magical that kids who had never been allowed to dance could suddenly moonwalk and do backflips.

16

Peabo Bryson and Regina Belle, 'A Whole New World' (Aladdin, 1992)

My favourite Disney movie of all time. This song definitely set the mood for that Princess Jasmine and Aladdin magical carpet scene.

15

Grease, Summer Nights (Grease, 1978)

One of the most entertaining films of all time could not be complete without a just as entertaining signature song.

14

Elvis Presley, 'Jailhouse Rock' (Jailhouse Rock, 1957)

Not only could he sing and dance, Elvis could act! Classic movie and even more epic Rock N' Roll song. This will definitely have you moving!

13

R. Kelly, 'I Believe I Can Fly' (Space Jam, 1996)

Virtually every NBA montage of the past 10 years has featured this inspiring slow jam from R. Kelly. It all started in 'Space Jam,' when Michael Jordan teamed up with Bill Murray and a cartoon rabbit to tackle a team of Monstars. Definitely a part of my childhood.

12

Chad Kroeger, 'Hero' (Spider-Man, 2000)

Sung by Nickelback frontman Chris Kroeger, the best part of Spiderman for me was this song. Great song.

11

Bette Midler, 'Wind Beneath My Wings' (Beaches, 1988)

The theme from the ultimate chick flick is one of those songs we will forever love. But admit it, you know you get misty every time you hear the Bette Midler tune playing at Barbara Hershey's funeral at the end of 'Beaches'. It's ok, so do we.

10

Elton John, 'Can you feel the love tonight' (The Lion King, 1994)

One of my favourite ballads of the 1990s and from Elton John, this song definitely set the mood in the beloved 'The Lion King'.

Sound of Music (The Sound of Music, 1965)

"The Hills are alive with the sound of music" .
Arguably the mother of musical films. Even to this day, you can still hear this song being used as a cameo in numerous films.

8

Whitney Houston, 'I Will Always Love You' (The Bodyguard, 1992)

The romantic pairing of Whitney Houston and Kevin Costner in 'The Bodyguard' was enough to dominate the box office and make a Whitney's version of Dolly Parton's 1974 heart-melter one of the most overplayed hits in history.

Harry Belafonte, 'The Banana Boat Song (Day-O)' (Beetlejuice, 1988)

One of the most hilarious scenes ever from one of my favorite movies of all time. Feel an uncontrollable urge to sing a Calypso folk song by Harry Belafonte? Well then you're either a Caribbean banana-boat worker or one of the bizarre homeowners possessed by Alec Baldwin and Geena Davis in Beetlejuice.

Roxette, 'It Must've Been Love' (Pretty Woman, 1990)

It's unfathomable that a broke-ass prostitute would turn down a free penthouse and spending account from a John, but somehow, Julia Roberts made it believable in 'Pretty Woman', with the help of Roxette's song.

Jennifer Warnes & Bill Medley, 'The Time of My Life' (Dirty Dancing, 1987)

This mom-rock classic from Warnes and Medley provided the beat for Jennifer Gray and Patrick Swayze's climatic dance in 'Dirty Dancing', which proved that sometimes it is okay to hook up with the help. lol

4

Seal, 'Kiss From a Rose' (Batman Forever, 1995)

In 'Batman Forever', Val Kilmer didn't fill the Caped Crusader's tights as well as Michael Keaton did in the original but at least 'Kiss From a Rose' was better than Prince's 'Batdance'. Beautiful song.

3

Berlin, 'Take My Breath Away' (Top Gun, 1986)

Tom Cruise had a need for speed in 'Top Gun', but Berlin set the mood when it was time to slow things down. The band scored the biggest hit of their career, and helped a Cruise become Hollywood's heartthrob.

2

Celine Dion, 'My Heart Will Go On' (Titanic, 1997)

... And on, and on. After a billion plays in 1997 alone, Celine's inescapable, Oscar-winning theme to one of the highest-grossing films in history is still getting airplay up to this day. Lovely movie and song.

1

The Righteous Brothers, 'Unchained Melody' (Ghost, 1990)

Who knew making pottery could be so hot? Demi and the Swayze got down and dirty in 'Ghost' to this 1965 Phil Spector-produced hit by the Righteous Brothers and scored at the Box Office.

  3. Nah lie another great blog. Some of those songs I didn't remember lol. Anyways. You put the best movie song at number one even though not sure if you intended to rank it like that. I loved the Armageddon song gone to bed but the ghost one was just simply epic in my book but for me my all time movie song would prolly be Janet Jackson "Again" from the movie Poetic Justice. Trust me though another wonderful blog as always.
